Saturday Afternoon Kung Fu Theater
In my first soiree in reviewing music on the staff picks section of Zero Dark Nerdy, it's only fitting that my first choice is a project from the founding member of The Wu-Tang Clan. Formerly titled RZA vs Bobby Digital, the album was made with producer DJ Scratch and arrived on March 4. The album’s central theme is a lyrical battle between the RZA and his alter-ego Bobby Digital, with DJ Scratch producing this incredible trip down hip hop memory lane. Fans of albums like GZA's Liquid Swords and Gravediggaz 6 Feet Deep, will enjoy the menacing beats by DJ Scratch, while the RZA/Bobby Digital we know and love from the mid to late '90s, makes a triumphant return on the mic. As the title suggests, the album pays homage to the old school kung fu movies some of us enjoyed on Saturday Mornings, the seven songs on the album provide a refreshing breath of fresh air to old school hip hop fans getting a little tired of a lot of the garbage getting airplay on hip hop radio stations over the past few years. You can find the album on any of your favorite streaming services and it only clocks in at just over 26:16 minutes, making it a fun listen while at home or driving in your car.
