2019 Survivor Series
Survivor Series is WWE’s second oldest PPV event. This year’s will be the 32 anniversary and the first time that all three brands are included. Over the last several weeks we have seen NXT invade SmackDown and Raw, and those brands invade NXT, which has lead to 5 matches on Sunday’s card that will feature all 3 brands. There are a few questions that will not be answered until after NXT’s WarGames event on Saturday, but regardless of who ends up representing the yellow brand, Sunday promises to be a must-see event.
The Card
“The Fiend” Bray Wyatt(c) vs. Daniel Bryan
WWE Universal Championship
Of all the matches this Sunday, this one seems to have had the least amount of build. Because of that, and just how over The Fiend is currently, it’s hard to imagine Bryan winning the title here. It will likely be an excellent match, unless The Fiend just completely destroys Daniel Bryan.
Prediction: The Fiend Retains
Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Rey Mysterio
WWE Championship
I don’t think it will come as a surprise to anyone when I saw Brock Lesnar will win this match. It just doesn’t make any sense to have Rey beat him. This could be a catalyst for rekindling the Lesnar/Vasquez feud, since that was a short lived program.
Prediction: Lesnar Retains
Becky Lynch vs. Bayley vs. Shayna Baszler
Triple Threat
This is where Sunday’s card starts to get interesting. You have all three women’s champions squaring off against each other. Becky L:ynch is still the biggest star in the company, so she doesn’t need to take a loss, but a win doesn’t benefit her a whole lot. So the smart move would be to remove her from the finish entirely, and have Shayna tap out Bayley. This would show that NXT is on the same level as the other brands, which could be the most important thing to do on Sunday.
Prediction: Shayna Baszler Wins
The Viking Raiders vs. The New Day vs. The Undisputed Era
Triple Threat
On almost any other card, this match would have match-of-the-night potential, but maybe not on this particular card. (More on that later). This should be an excellent match, with New Day being able to sort of bridge the gap between the fighting styles of their two opponents. It seems unlikely that the Undisputed Era would take the loss, but it seems equally unlikely that the Viking Raiders don’t win. WWE has build Erik and Ivar up as such monsters, it seems like their first real loss will be the culmination of a much more intense feud.
Prediction: Vikign Raiders Win
Team Raw (Charlotte Flair, Natalya, Asuka, Kairi Sane, Sarah Logan) vs. Team Smackdown (Sasha Banks, Carmella, Dana Brooke, Lacey Evans, Nikki Cross) vs. Team NXT (TBD)
Women’s Survivor Series Match
This year’s Survivor Series features 2 Survivor Series matches. both are 5-on-5-on-5 matches, one for the women and one for the men. In both cases, the NXT teams have yet to be decided. Presumably, the teams will be determined at or after the WarGames event on Saturday. Regardless of who is on the teams, it makes sense to have NXT win both of the matches. looking at the roster for the Raw and Smackdown women’s team, there are several women on both teams who could take the final pinfall and be no worse off because of it. These matches are a great opportunity to create new rivalries, and light a fire under a superstar. With this match containing 3 teams, it is sure to be chaotic, which leaves you plenty of room to keep you top stars looking strong, even while taking a loss.
Prediction: Team NXT Wins
Team Raw (Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre, Kevin Owens, Randy Orton, Ricochet) vs. Team Smackdown (Roman Reigns, Ali, Braun Strowman, King Corbin, and Chad Gable) vs. Team NXT (TBD)
Men’s Survivor Series Match
Just like the women’s Survivor Series match, the NXt team for the men’s match is yet to be determined. But again, it seems likely that whoever is on the team will pick up the win. With the men’s match, we see a lot more faces and heels on the same team, which is likely going to lead to distrust, miscommunication, and inevitably the loss. There are rumors swirling that HHH will join the NXT team, which if that is the case, could setup a match for Wrestlemania. Perhaps Reigns vs HHH, after Trips pulls some stunt to beat him as the final elimination.
Predictions: Team NXT wins
AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Roderick Strong
Triple Threat
With so many exciting matches on this card, it might be hard to pick out one as the match-of-the-night. Until you see this one of the list. we’ve seen Styles and Nakamura put on excellent matches before, and with the addition of Strong, it’s safe to say that this will be the one to watch for. Of course, that is assuming they are given the proper time. Aj seems like the most likely candidate to win this one in order to build him up heading into the new year.
Prediction: AJ wins
Adam Cole (c) vs. NXT War Games Triple Threat Winner (Pete Dunn/Killian Dane/Damian Priest)
NXT Championship
It seems unlikely that they will want to take the title off of Adam Cole right now, regardless of who his opponent is. I think Pete Dunn would be the most recognizable name to Cole to face and will likely be his opponent come Sunday. However a match between Adam Cole and Damien Priest would be excellent, and something we haven’t seen yet in NXT.
Prediction: Cole Retains BABAY
