2020 Money In The Bank
Money in the Bank will be WWE’s second Pay Per View event with no fans in attendance. This has led them to do something truly unique with the event’s namesake matches. Instead of climbing a ladder in the middle of the ring to grab the Money in the Bank briefcase, the competitors will have to navigate their way through WWE Headquarters to the top of the building to grab the prize. It is interesting to see WWE come up with new and inventive ways to keep the product fresh and interesting when there is no live audience. It’s safe to say that this year’s event will be one unlike any other, and will, of course, set us up with a least a few stories as we begin the march towards SummerSlam.
The Card
Daniel Bryan vs. Aleister Black vs. Rey Mysterio vs. King Corbin vs. Otis vs. AJ Styles
Men's Money in the Bank
This is a pretty interesting lineup for a ladder match. Obviously we’re going to get some fun spots from Rey and Aleister, and some laughs from Otis. I think the stars of this match will be Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles, who could easily put on the match of the night by themselves. With Gallows and Anderson gone from WWE, it does make this seem like a little bit fairer of a fight. AJ being the heel does tip the scale in his direction, as he can easily resort to some dirtier tricks than Bryan likely will. Oh yea and Corbin will be there too.
PREDICTION: AJ STYLES WINS
Asuka vs. Shayna Baszler vs. Nia Jax vs. Dana Brooke vs. Lacey Evans vs. Carmella
Women's Money in the Bank
For the women’s match, I think it comes down to Asuka or Shayna. With Kairi Sane now gone from WWE, it makes sense that they’d want to push Asuka back into the singles spotlight, and what better way to do that than to have her win the Money In The Bank?
PREDICTION: ASUKA WINS
Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Seth Rollins
WWE Championship Match
It doesn’t seem like WWE would want to take the title off of McIntyre so soon, and I don’t expect them to. I imagine AOP will get involved with this match, or Rollins will use a weapon to get himself disqualified. This will lead to a rematch with a stipulation at Extreme Rules.
PREDICTION: DREW WINS BY DQ
Braun Strowman (c) vs. Bray Wyatt
Universal Championship Match
Perhaps the most interesting part of this match is that it seems like Braun Strowman will be facing Bray Wyatt, not “The Fiend”. This leads me to believe that Stroman will win, retaining his title, and set up another match where he will face Wyatt’s alter ego. There is a lot of history between Wyatt and Strowman that they can pull from for a great story over the next couple of months.
PREDICTION: BRAUN STROWMAN RETAINS
Bayley (c) vs. Tamina
SmackDown Women’s Championship
Probably the obvious choice here is to have Bayley retain. BUT, I think this is Tamina’s time. She’s got to be getting pretty close to retiring. She’s 42, been with the company for a decade, and has never held the women’s championship. I say, have Sasha cost Bayley the win to add some fuel to that fire and give Tamina a short run with the belt, ultimately dropping it to Sasha.
PREDICTION: TAMINA WINS
New Day (c) vs. Forgotten Sons vs. The Miz & John Morrison vs. Lucha House Party
SmackDown Tag Team Championship
With Kofi Kingston, John Morrison, and the Lucha House Party in the same match there should be plenty of amazing spots. I wouldn’t expect much to come from this match in the way of storytelling, but it will be fun to watch. The Forgotten Sons have gotten a quick push but I can’t see them earning the titles this quickly. I expect that New Day or Miz/Morrison will win, and either one would make sense. It’s somewhat of a tossup, but I’m going to go with the New Day.
PREDICTION: NEW DAY RETAIN
