Michael Myers may call Haddonfield Illinois home, but after Labor Day 2019, he and Laurie Strode will be calling Wilmington North Carolina home as filming will begin on Halloween 2. It's exciting for North Carolina to land a horror icon like Michael Myers, especially coming off a well-received (79% on Rotten Tomatoes) film that also did very well in the box office. Halloween (2018), co-written and directed by David Gordon Green, had a budget of $10 million and went on to gross $255 million worldwide.
Jamie Lee Curtis was on Jason Blum's (Blumhouse Productions) Twitter Page in early June with a post stating "We're working on stuff" as she's holding a Laurie Strode action figure. Blumhouse Productions has a great track record of taking good horror stories, keeping the budget reasonable, and cranking out some great box office numbers with them. It's very exciting that University of North Carolina School of the Arts Alumni Danny McBride, who co-wrote the reboot with Gordon Green, will be back on board, as well as the master of horror himself, John Carpenter as executive producers. The release date for Halloween 2 is October 16, 2020.
Update on 7/20/2019 - They are filming back to back Halloween movies in Wilmington this fall! Halloween Kills coming out in 2020 and Halloween Dies coming out in 2021!
